How do you break a pilot bearing?

Back in the day on F-body clutch installs I would mess up and break the bearing during install, but never broke one in my C5 just driving..

I don't know how in the hell you broke a pilot bearing period. I have installed probably 50-100 and never broke one.

Well the car is torn apart and the first thing that was discovered was a broken pilot bearing. Clutch is fine and tranny is fine via tearing them down as well.. If clutch is installed correctly I really dont know how one can break unless there is a balance issue.

How is it broken? Is it destroyed or is it wore out?

I will have to get a picture of it, but I was told it was destroyed. Symptoms were 4th gear grind and clutch not fully disengaging. I also noticed some slight vibration, but I was told that is just the nature of twin disc clutches. Then the car sat for a while and the day I brought it out of the garage to show off in front of my son I did a burnout and the clutch pedal stuck to the floor. I popped the hood and watched the clutch fluid disappear.

The car is at Futral Motorsports at the moment.

I am also thinking that is possible, but hard to believe since I have the upgraded Z06 tq tube. Futral Motorsports is inspecting at the moment and if it is bent I might go with a carbon fiber driveshaft.
